Now, if you've followed the news, they're in Chapter 11, with crooked books, $3 billion unaccounted for, and the stock delisted last week.
That blow decimated our company, and eventually we went under. Ironically, I now work at the #3 cable company in the country (Comcast), and we'll be the #1 cable provider by October, if all goes as plans.
But since that means nothing these days, it doesn't give me feeling of security. I'd much rather leave the corporate BS behind and go back to working at a startup company. Think you can get rid of my ul/dl caps then? Being laid off sucks Hope all is ok Packrat. Good luck! My feeling of job security is my job is so damn unique, no one else knows how to do it... I was suppose to go on a trip (bus) but my boss wouldn't let me since no one else can do my job... vacation is a PITA My wife was really worried about hers, but she was just offered a nice new position in the company (hand picked), and they wanted someone "who was going to stick around". The sucky part is the really long drive she has to make to the new center, but that's alright, at least she has her job

Either they're going to keep you for fear you'll get the doctors at 'em again or you'll be the first to go for that reason. You've been having so many problems there anyway ... is it time to find something else?

I work for Lockheed Martin in New Orleans. I have worked there for 5 years, and I have survived 5 or 6 layoffs (I lost count). We just had one in March, and we have another in Sept. NASA's budget cuts are really hurting us.
On the bright side, I could easily get a job in TX working on the F-35 (JSF). So I am not too worried about it.

At the undisclosed ISP I work at, they had quite a few layoffs; they said that this was to "break even" and fired alot of the people we depended on the most. Included in these were people in our NOC (Network Operations Center) and our only person in the Network Security department, who helped customers with problems like getting hacked, getting harassed online, etc. So who does all their jobs now? Well, the NOC is like at half the staff they were at, and Security is done by the regular techs, who have no idea what to do since we've had no training in these issues. Wtf??
The best part was, when this happpened, the main office told us that they could guarantee our jobs until the end of the year, but they weren't sure after that. I'm kind of hoping I get laid off....that means I can start going to school to be a car mechanic instead of a god damn computer technician! It's funny, I thought this profession would be so great, but now I find that all the tech jobs either are getting filled, or are just being plain terminated.
