Calling someone an idiot because they don't agree with you or because they don't seem to listen to reason is not acceptable. Simply disagree and move on. Trash talking accomplishes nothing but create a negative atmosphere here.

Thank you Lance. I am tired of every topic being filled with posts just ripping on people. I think this will make CEG a much more enjoyable place to be.

In all seriousness, I agree with Lance, this personal bashing has gone way too far, especially in cases where someone simply isn't liked.

I just don't want something like this to scare people into thinking that this means there can no longer be good debate on topics, nor is it intended to take away the humorous antics that abound for all of our entertainment (Honkeytonk Monkey is a good example of this).
The personal bashing/flaming is out of hand and won't be tolerated per Lance.

It's all about balance.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if all of O/T went away.

Of course EdwardC would have to post about his car, and I'd have to do more work during the slow days wink

True. I'm a member of Team-Integra.net, and we have no OT forum. I talked with the admin about creating one. He told me there is no way, it causes too many problems. Now that I think about it, he was right. Look at how many posts are in Off Topic...this area gets more attention than some of the Contour-related stuff. Want to shoot off your mouth? Try off-topic.net.

Good call mamisano. Pothetic that Lance sets up a free site for us to enjoy and then has to babysit.

[mod hat off]
In regards to keeping or removing the OT forum. If it is removed, all that will happen is General will revert to how it was before, when every other post was "OT: blah, blah, blah". Off-Topic chit chat is nothing more than what happens in a community. Although there are exceptions to this, the majority of car sites out there have Lounges, Off-Topic areas, and the like. Completely removing a forum instead of simply cracking down on personal flaming is like cutting off your arm so you can't get a paper cut.

I know, I know. I was here when O/T was created and understand why it was created. I'm just saying, I could learn to live without O/T.

Not to mention, the same mods could remove O/T posts from General. However, I do recognize that would be much more work and doesn't foster a sense of community.

FWIW,

TB

{edit}
Now I've just had a thought (calm down, it doesn't happen that
often) that the ugliest of exchanges were over disagreements
about how to mod/fix/change the Contour/Mystique.

So I guess you have to ban all talk about the cars too wink

it is my personal opinion, that the maturity level of CEG as a whole went down dramatically over the last couple of months -- half a year...

CEG used to be very different from other car forums in this regard, and IMHO it isn't, not any more.

Not that it bothers me all that much, but this whole GSRGuy thingy kinda reinforces my point of view and that's a shame
