I do believe that this topic has struck a nerve that will always be affected for as long as we live.
My personal belief goes along the line that our forefathers based this country on the beliefs of "One Nation, Under God". They left Europe and such and came here to escape religeous prosecution, and from having to believe a certain faith. However, I do NOT believe that they would have wanted to do what they did if they, would/had seen what is happening today. We have people that no longer believe in any god what-so-ever, and take offense at our currency stating "In God We Trust". If there is no such thing as God or god, however you want it stated, what is our country for? Before any of you would ever go to court and have to sit in the witness stand, you take an oath which has the following if I remember correct, "Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you god?" The witness now has his hand on the Holy Bible, and says "I Do". Now if this is just a person who does not at all believe in the any god, or the bible, what good is that oath done? Nothing, he could lie all s/he wants to, and it wouldn't phase him/her in the least. Therefore if we are doing all this just because it is offensive to some people, is our whole judicial system wrong? Is putting people under oath wrong? Is it "offensive"? Freedom of religion means you can worship your god without being prosecuted, but it DOES NOT mean you can just not believe in NOTHING, and then get mad at what the country was founded in.
Sorry to vent, this is just my belief, I know it's not stated in the best of ways, but I just hope you can get my drift. And o, soo sorry if I "offended" any of you non-believers out there.
