has anyone done this to their PS2 so it will play burnt games and DVD's?

I resently got a PS2 and I'm looking into getting this.
I've found out that they even have some now that don't have to be soldered in, but it seems that all the types need the help of a gameshark2 to run burnt PS2 games.

if anyone has any info/suggestions etc... on this let me know.

I put one in my cousin's ps2 when it first came out...it was a major PITA. The newer ones still require a power lead to be soldered in. Last time I checked there was a "messiah" chip that was very hard to get but allowed direct booting of any disc, no gameshark. It was $$$. I haven't checked up on the scene lately but once you get into it it's hard to stop!

Before this gets locked (and I'm certain it will), anyone ever try one of those "boot disc" ISOs like you can find on Kazaa? Curious if it would work or not.

from what i've read the "messiah" chip is the best one it run $89 but you don't need a gameshark2 or bootdisk, or have to tray swap Cd's, or need the original disk, etc..

but it looks like a major PITA to install...a lot of soldering, and on VERY small stuff.

probably would be better to sent it to a place to install it most of the place have lifetime guarentee, but it still seems shady to me!
