I'm like the others. I just got a 6500 dollar bonus from work. Was going to do the 3.0L swap. Priced at 5100 for the engine, LSD (now lower in price), clutch, flywheel, and install. I was really looking forward to it until I met my current g/f. Now I'm saving my money and wanting a house. Much better to have than a fast car even if things don't work out with her. Hope you like the site though and Welcome. laugh

Yeah, what KJ said. I got a $20K bonus, and instead of wasting it on toys, I bought a house. Put 20% down, and still had enough left over for a kick-ass home theater w/ HDTV smile At least the house will appreciate, and my mortgage is roughly what rent used to cost me, plus I get the tax break I so desperately needed. All things to consider.

If you've got $6K and nothing to do with it, at least invest it in something, be it a CD, mutual fund, or even 5% at the bank. You don't even have the SVT yet, enjoy it for what it is, and go the upgrade path when it no longer satisfies you. Regardless of which path you choose, you're not going to be rolling with M3s and Cobras, that's just not what our cars were meant to do.

I've yet to hear claims of a 20 horse gain. Just curious!

174HP when 165HP is normal baseline... Does not make 20HP. Maybe 11-12HP at the crank and 0 TQ gains (maybe some lost?) (Seen Bassani give 7-9FWHP / 9-12HP at crank)

Like you said; without a baseline those numbers are not accurate!

BTW 174.2HP = 212.3 crank HP; not 218+

Free flowing exhaust (Borla/Bassini/Custom)

Free flowing intake (KKM/WR/K&N)

Bullet proof the tranny (better clutch & qualife)

3.0 block swapp (keep the heads for next step)

Super charger (or Turbo when available)

Not enough power? get Nitrous

Better springs, struts, and sway bar bushings

Now you will need new tires (rims optional)

I know I forgot something. Anyway this should get things moving in the right direction.

USMC- ok, in order to allow the Contour to beat an M3 or a Cobra this is what you need to do with your $6k: Take $1000 put it into some nice tires and wheels, then take the remaining $5000 and use it for a down payment on a new M3. There, that should about do it. Unfortunately, you can spend all you want, stock M3's have 333hp and can out twistie the Contours. Stock Cobra has similar HP and HUGE torque. I believe the Cobra is cheaper than the M3 so you may be better off spending the $5k down on the Cobra. Enjoy.
Also, it says "will be an F-18" when will that be? Where are you gonna be stationed? What ever you do, stay away from Yuma, AZ. Too damn hot and too many Harriers. Later.

Buy a house, by all means. Will be the smartest thing you ever did. well, next to buying the 'tour, of course. wink

Be careful of mods. It's very hard to recover the $ spent & could potentially depreciate the value of your car. Not to mention the heartburn of a possible voided warranty, if you have one. I'm not saying don't, only to think it thru & realize the full impact. If you decide it's what you've just got to do, then do it & don't look back.

Enough preaching...Enjoy your new ride. laugh

Here's what you should do:
1) K&N or KKM ($50 or $90)
2) Borla, Bassani, or Custom Catback (~$600)
3) Koni yellows/Eibachs (~$850)
4) MSDS headers ($550)
5) 3L swap ($1750)
6) Repeat the above for me! Don't worry, I'll pay the difference! smile

Seriously though, you might want to hold off on the "visually obvious" mods until after your warranty runs out. New intake/filter is a good first step- plus it's easy to swap out in case your dealer's a d!ck.

Happy modding and welcome...

What percentage of loss are you calculating with?? And at the same dyno, most SVTs were baselining at 151-155 range... Are you calculating from the stock number of 200 hp? Or from an actual baseline?? Just wondering, not flaming... laugh

Anyways, overall get a freeflowing exhaust... laugh

Standard driveline loss is around 18%

Therefore multiply by 1.22 to find crank HP from wheel HP

Standard SVT makes roughly 165HP

Those were the numbers I was using.

If the other SVT's were putting out 151-155HP then either the dyno is out of calibration, the temp & humidity were 100+ or some people should be really pissed!!! wink

2 SVT's here in KC put down 172/160 & 178/154 with a home brewed (stock piping - diff mufflers) and Bassani exhaust respectively... Most others are 160's HP with 150TQ range. Others I've seen (other dyno's plots online) are in that same range.

But then again - different dyno's are hard to compare off of...
