Some of these people (and their children) need to learn the simple lesson: Life is not fair

Pete D reminded me of something my Mom always used to say to me: "Tough... Life isn't fair." Something I'll probably pass on to my own kids, who I hope I won't raise as sissies.

Allow me to play opposite here, and take the side of the public educator that thought up of this tripe...
[devil's advocate on]
I've no problem with it either. It basically ensures that folks with intelligence, drive, a controlled agressive nature and honed ability will be in need far longer than otherwise. in my mind, this means higher salaries and more responsibility for me while I get to take advantage of the cattle that are coming down the pipes of the US public education system. It basically will allow me to build a company or business on the backs of others much easier than in the past. What's not to admire about a plan like that?
Let the public schools keep flushing our youth down the sewers of life and force mediocrity and total conformity on them. God knows I want someone to cower everytime I walk by and not question anything I say or do. This way, I can keep salaries at a minimum and constantly drive higher and higher productivity out of them, simply by telling them that the work they do is reward in itself.
[devil's advocate off]
Hopfully the public servant's jaw would hit the ground once realization set in...
Yet another nail in the coffin of sending my future children to a public institution. All the spankings from misbehaving, the sore backs from getting hit in dodgeball, ALL of the things that made me STRIVE to be better at a young age is getting pulled from public education curiculum and policy. Where in the hell have all the external motivators for excellence gone?!

Then again, don't forget you're looking at a single article "reported" by an extremely biased right-wing news organization. And even if it's true exactly as reported (from Fox? a stretch), is it an isolated incident? How many school systems have this policy? Fox just sort of leaves you hanging on the question of whether it's a widespread problem we need to worry about, or just something they found to stir the pot and further divide us as a people.

We played Smear the Queer, but we called it "Muckle" and it was always played with a football.
We played a game we called "Homo Joe" - it was like reverse muckle with no ball. Homo Joe was essentially "it" and had to tackle someone who wasn't Homo. Once tackled, you were both homo and went chasing everyone else. We made that one up one day when we didn't have a ball.
Yeah, we weren't exactly the most PC 2nd graders.
My favorite game was "Suicide" (or "Wall Ball" if a teacher asked). Throw a tennis ball or raquetball against a wall. If someone touches it without catching it at any time, they ran to the wall while someone else grabbed the ball and tried to peg them. If you threw the ball against the wall and it was caught in the air, you stood against and facing the wall and the catcher got a free shot at you from where they caught it. If you missed any time you tried to peg someone, you are open for pegging. We went home with some welts on our backs (especially when some sadistic fool brought a racquetball from home).
We of course played tag all the time. "Break the Chain", "Jail Tag", "TV Tag" (LOL), etc. I was slow and got caught a lot. Didn't get picked too early. Didn't care either. Didn't go home crying that I was picked last. Every once in a while I would put up a performance that got people's attention and I would get picked earlier next time. Hey, look at me, I'm a winner!

lol Wall Ball.. we'd always do tennis balls but they still hurt a little Red Rover, yeah, i remember that game definitely, we weren't supposed to play it at our elementary school (but we did anyway till a teacher broke it up  ) and we had a few 'serious' injuries [kid runnin through got caught up on somebodys arms and his legs kept goin, he did a flip almost and landed flat on his back- just got the wind knocked outta him!] but that's the way it goes. hah.. never played Smear the Queer guess i wasn't old enough and already got wiped with the "lets be PC children" teachers -- its all good! probably had some differentiation then again we'd play 50 states, we had a map painted on the asphault and one person would call out a state- all of us would hafta run to that state and not get tagged... it sucked with new hampshire and rhode island, etc., esp. when u had a lotta people :p aww. memories
