Hey, let's make sure kids are pacifist wimps that don't have any concept of the term "competition". It's not like that's the basis of Capitalism or anything....

There is a great book called, "The Blessing of the Skinned Knee" it talks about things like this.

In life there are winners and losers in all sorts of situations. If we don't allow kids to learn how to handle them when they are young how will they know how to handle them when they are older?!?!?!

I was at an 8th grade graduation last night (don't get me started on the merits of the whole affair!?!?!) and one of the speakers said:

"If you didn't get an award it does not mean you were not worthy of one..."

HUH? Then why the hell didn't you get one? Or why, if you did, did you? I guess everyone is special and wonderful, ugh!

We are creating a society of unmotivated, "entitled" people.

This really frustrates me having a very young child.

She will know that she is special to me, however, she will know that effort, not abilities; planning, not genius; hard work, not talent are the things that will make her successful and help her achieve her dreams in life!

i don't see anything wrong with having a few competitions and whatever, they say kids complained "i dont like it" .. let them run off to the swings or something- why ban the game to those who DO like it?

In the 1920's and 1930's, French public and private schools attempted to reform curricula to suppress many stimuli that would bring out aggression in the kids. Rough housing, and physical games were frowned upon. Some 10-20 years later, those some kids who entered the French "army" were literally handing over their rifles to the Nazis without firing a shot at the start of WWII.

I say, raise kids like the Spartans did. Use brutal discipline; bad food and miserable living conditions.....oh wait....never mind, I am thinking back to my own childhood.

people need to suck it up and let kids play what they want. by "protecting" kids from all of these perceived evils in life, they never learn what is good or bad for them. they never learn their limits. what is often a weakness in a child's life can turn to one of their strong points as an adult. why don't people see this!!??

i was a big tag-girl when i was younger, and so were all my friends.. it was a blast, that's why i'm so bummed they banned it.

That's freakin' ridiculous!!! I could understand if it was getting violent or something, but banning because of a few cry babies is stupid. The kids that do like it may be the ones that aren't good at anything else and this is all they're left with as far as extraciricular activities. Now how's that fair!!

It sounds like the same teachers who are too lazy for active children telling the parents they need to put their kids on Ritalin, or they will be kicked out of school.
