I've had my Apex AD-600A since late 1999 (one of the original units that has the secret menu which allows me to disable Macrovision copy protection and bypass region coding, although I really bought it to play MP3's
). It hasn't given me any trouble, except on two rental DVD's ("Girl, Interrupted" and "The Patriot") where I couldn't get beyond the main menu, but I never figured out if it was the DVDs or the player. And yes, they are "flash-upgradable" -- you can download the upgrade, burn it on a CD-R, and the player will upgrade itself. Can't beat it for the price!
