Thanks everyone for your posts...

Bought the Apex AD 1100 W. $69 at Walmart. Apparently it is "upgradable" wink which is something I was looking for too. There was a question mark over whether the Daewoo was even covered by warranty as Daewoo did not import these players themself to the US.

Now to start looking for football DVD's online.

Cheers...

I've had my Apex AD-600A since late 1999 (one of the original units that has the secret menu which allows me to disable Macrovision copy protection and bypass region coding, although I really bought it to play MP3's wink ). It hasn't given me any trouble, except on two rental DVD's ("Girl, Interrupted" and "The Patriot") where I couldn't get beyond the main menu, but I never figured out if it was the DVDs or the player. And yes, they are "flash-upgradable" -- you can download the upgrade, burn it on a CD-R, and the player will upgrade itself. Can't beat it for the price!

Apex is good. I got the AD-500W from WalMart ($97) and got the "upgrade" chip for $25 shipped off Ebay a few months ago.
