Give me a break. How many of you complain that the MAN is in your business all the time and they should just leave you the hell alone. Home Depot is a business that wants to be left the hell alone, nothing wrong with that. The cash and carry thing is a bit odd but they must be worried that enough quantity of such transactions would qualify for the $25k limit. And don't even think the guberment would not try to use a loophole like that to crush someone. Also notice the wording that keeps saying "if you are aware" that the transaction is for the government. This is the legal deptarment doing some major CYA. When you contract with the government they own you and Home Depot does not want to be owned, simple as that.

The Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974, which requires thatanyone doing business worth $25,000 or more with the federal government must take affirmative action to hire and to promote qualified targeted veterans

I have no problem requiring employers to target Veterans as employees. Further, if they are avoiding Govt business in an attempt to escape laws requiring equal opportunity, then they have created yet another reason for me to never enter their establishment ever again.

The problem with many of these regulations is they cost money. You have to hire people just to make sure you are in compliance.

I have no problem with equal opportunity and such. What I have a problem with is the Government using it's power as the largest potential customer to convince/coerce (depending on your point of view) to act in a certain way.

As many of you have suggested, there are other choices in the home improvement market. What that tells me is that profit margins are probably slim and with more competition, getting slimmer.

I suspect, some bean counters simply figured out that the "cost" of "compliance" with all of the accounting and auditing of the "diversity" of the work place, costs more than the potential profit margins of selling to the government.

So they simply choose to not be considered a government "contractor" or business that does business with the Federal government.

I don't believe any smart business man chooses to be a "bigot" based on race, religion, color, creed or sexual orientation. That is not a smart business decision. However, if what they did was determine that it costs them money to have the government as a customer, they simply dropped them as a customer.

Cash, credit or any other purchase, doesn't matter. It rarely makes sense to knowingly lose money, if you are in business.

I'm sure, however, that they are to some liberal who thinks
republicans are bigots but that minorities can't make it without
their help.

Read on. I'm not anti-military. In fact, that is one of the few things the Federal Government should be doing, national defense.

However, when I talk about managing problems, I was a bit vague and should elaborate. I mean things like affirmative action, global warming, the spotted owl, and so forth.

Yes, I thank you for defending our nation, and you will check these boards, you will find that I am a veteran as well.

Please name for me a government agency that has actually solved the problem it was charged with. You won't find many, because that generally means they put themselves out of business. Instead, they manage the problem, to ensure that the bueracracy survives.

I hope this clarifies my point. I am not anti-American or anti-Military. I am however, very much anti large, expanding, intrusive centralized government.

That was pretty low, even for you. Actually, I don't agree with affirmative action either, as I believe that the best, most qualified person, should get the job. However, it the case of HD, I have to question their motives for wanting to avoid this as well as other requirements of doing business with the government.

I'm not republican or democrat. I vote my mind. It might surprise you, but in recent years I have voted mostly republican, since their stance on abortion and gun laws parallels my own more often than not.
