ME -> DOS is an upgrade. That is the worst operating system Microsoft has put out. It shouldn't give you any issues though.
Oh, and about the network thing, I always fixed it by disabling and re-enabling the network connection. I know of a few other people that had this problem. It seems to pop up in the 'corporate' edition
EDIT: my system automagically stopped doing it back in february.
