I feel your pain bro. I feel that playing bass is my "gift" as well. Just look at my screen name. I don't think that you're girlfriend would break up with you if it came down to it. Love conquers all right? I mean if you're meant to be together then you'll stay together. I think a big part of the relationship is adapting to the lifestyle of your signifigant other. If your dreams and her dreams don't line up and there's no room for compromise then maybe you two weren't meant for each other. If so, then see it as a good learning experience. Whatever you do, don't stop playing drums but don't throw your life away chasing somethin thats not there. You don't wanna be one of those coulda beens ya know? Well I probably contradicted myself a few times but its ok...i'm out
