I went to CompUSA and Circuit City after posting tonight, and am now typing this post on my new computer. Of all the brands I have been seriously considering - including WinBook, Compaq, Toshiba and HP - I never thought I would end up with a .....
Sony Vaio.
That's right. Circuit City had a Sony Vaio FXA out for $1699. With their $200 rebate (active tomorrow) it comes down to $1499 and taxes.
It has:
- AMD Athlon XP 1.3 GHz
- 14.1" XGA TFT screen
- combo DVD/CDRW
- floppy built in (removable for optional 2nd batt.)
- 30 GB HD
- 256 MB RAM (max 512)
- all the Sony fun stuff, like iLink and video out - minus S-vid
- WinXP Home
I think I got a pretty good deal. I had never considered Sony because although I knew they were quality, they were also expensive. This one is pretty sweet. It's quiet too - by far the quietest laptop I've ever personally used!
Thanks for all of your input and suggestions! I took them all into consideration when making this decision.
