You use a Mac at work, why not get one for home? They can do everything a pc can do and then some. And if you really need to use winblows, get Virtual PC. G4's kick arse.

If you know even a little about computers you may also know how dumb "some" of the techs at Dell are! It it as if they go out of their way to hire people that don't speak english very well! Also, as with alot of techs out there, if they don't know how to fix your problem, they tell you to re-format your HD and install everything again! :p But seriously though, it is still better than no tech help, they replaced my CD burner without any problems and they have never left me out in the cold! Some of the factory installed software was not compatible with other installed software and as a result was one of the things I left uninstalled when I reformatted the HD! In my experiences, the system restore feature is NO guarantee that it will fix your problems. As with alot of computers it is good practice to back up your info frequently and once in a while reformat your HD to install th OS clean and to remove all the hidden CRAP that cloggs up your PC! I bought a dell 8100 about a year ago, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Mine has the nvidia geforce 2 mx 400, I think, and it played all my games fine, untill I bought GTA 3. For the most part it plays ok, but during parts of the game when alot is going on, it can get alittle choppy. I'm thinking of upgrading to either a geforce 4 mx400 or geforce 3 ti 200. Which card do you guys think performs better? I saw charts of a comparison test of the two, and the ti200 performed slightly better.

I prefer to build my own machines, but for people who aren't really into computers or are just looking for an all around good computer..I recommend a dell. You can't beat them as far as quality goes IMO. Not to mention, they're easy to work on - which is good for me!

If you (or anyone else) is planning to build a computer, get in touch with me. I work for Xoxide Modifications . We modify cases and even if you're not into that we have a lot of regular cases too. I can give you a pretty good price on a case if you're looking for one.

Geforce3 Ti200 no contest over the GF4MX, or if you can afford it get a Geforce4 Ti4200 for a little more cash.

HP, compaq, sony and dell, and any other national computer vendors do months worth of R&D on compatability stability and performance, and testing (home brands like VPR matrix or compPC do not (btw, i work for compusa and our copmuter brand sucks ASS, they are built to make us the most profit margin and keel over dead in a year or two, ha ha)) . If you want the best for your money, not just in performance but in support, copmatability, stability, and scaleability stick with a big company that has the resources to support thier product. Its even better if you get an "technology assurance program" (that what compusa calls it) cuase we cover everything inside the computer even what the manufacturer doesn't, it also covers anything you do to the computer, we'll train you on it, give you free tech support, deliver and set it up, and clean the inards and do a virus scans for one full year. Normally, they come in 1 and 2 and 3 year terms and you have the option of renewing at the end of the term. food for thought, take it how ever you want....

I've had a couple of Dell systems before. starting with the Dimension 166mhz, and my next one was the Dimension TX450 great computers... find the best thing to do is BUILD YOUR OWN COMPUTER - There is lots of truth to this... you can customize the computer to work the way you want it.. and have the parts you want in it.. Im using a homemade computer and I like it much more than my Dells. plus, you can overclock wee 550mhz@820mhz
