You're right - the Southern Baptist minister mentioned in the first post would have been a better example.

These are words from a loving, tolerant religion?!
Again, there is only one God who took on flesh in the form of Jesus Christ, NOT Mohammed, Buddha, Shiva or other false gods! And when the Lord thy God hath delivered [a city] into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword: But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself (Deuteronomy 20:13-14).
And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. . . . And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods (Numbers 31:7-9).
But God shall wound the head of his enemies, and the hairy scalp of such an one as goeth on still in his trespasses. The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring my people again from the depths of the sea: That thy foot may be dipped in the blood of thine enemies, and the tongue of thy dogs in the same (Psalms 68:21-23).
And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron (2 Samuel 4:12).
And when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them (Deuteronomy 7:2).
But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth(Deuteronomy 20:16).
Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city [of nonbelievers] with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword (1 Samuel 13:15). The fact there is no proof that God exists (any God of any religion) is a mighty big piece of circumstancial evidence that God does not exist. Going down the list of what God supposedly did (create the heavens and earth, creat people, etc.) one can disprove each of those theories with science. So by disproving all that God did, one can make the conjecture that God does not exist. What this does not take into account is how much faith one puts in science. As science can reproduce its findings, I tend to believe it more often than not. There are some scientific theories that I find as lacking as some religious theories though, so it not like I blindly accept all that soience says, after all science has been wrong too. Don't get me wrong, I believe in a God, just not one of the major religion's God.

When in glass houses, don't throw stones. Edward, Edward, Edward. All of your quoted scripture is from the Old Testament. That is the ?old school? way people lived before Jesus. Now Christians live by the words of the New Testament. I?ll be impressed when you can pull scripture from the New Testament that supports your argument.

I'll be impressed when you can pull scripture from the New Testament that supports your argument. Then why is the Old Testament included in the Bible at all if it were not intended to serve as guideline for Christianity along with the New Testament. Oh that's right. Christians are into "picking and choosing" scriptures to fit their specific needs while ignoring the more embarrassing verses.

Science has not disproved anything. THEORY of Evolution is not proof of human creation. The Big Bang THEORY is not proof of the creation of the universe. They are theories! Theories that were created by humans, trying to explain the world around us. Once again, this is the very reason the Big Debate still goes on, and on, and on. There is no proof of either side's view!

No the Old Testement is basically a history lesson on the way it was. And the New Testament is the way it should be. There is no picking and choosing, because the two parts of the bible are totally different. If I'm off base here someone will set me straight I'm sure.

Cpurser writes: Once again, Edward the Agnostic creates another Christian-bashing post, in his never-ending quest to convince his own great scientific mind that there is no God and that all people who believe in God are ignorant fools.
But the more Ed studies his precious science and the universe he lives in, he finds more and more evidence that there is indeed an all-powerful God. But Ed's heart is so hard and cold, that even if God stood before him, he would still deny Him.
So Ed tries to fill his empty soul by spending his time researching the "ignorant Christians", creating posts and inciting debates, to show the world that he is the smart one; that his life-long quest has not been in vain. But, the fact remains that his great quest HAS been in vain, and maybe one day he will realize this..... but I doubt it. My quest is for answers. You seek answers in a 2000 year old religious manuscript and I seek answers using the methodology of science. I would prefer an "empty soul" to an "empty mind".

Old Testament is history and the giving of the law. The violence pointed out by Edward occured to those who broke the law of God. Remember, Israel was, and STILL IS God's chosen people (read Revelation, and it is obvious that Christ is not done with Israel). The violence was carried out against those intent on thwarting God. New Testament in NO WAY disputes or clashes with the Old Testament. It is rather God's very own expression of how to follow his law.
