Me?

I wish the Vette had the HP/displacement ratio that the Contour SVT has...

...then again, I wish my SVT had the HP/TQ that the Vette puts out...

If you can't tell, there's a reason I like both very much.

Actually,

They don't handle that bad.

Now clean up the soda pop you just spit on the monitor and keyboard (I suggest you turn the power off first) They are not my cup of tea, but they don't handle that bad.

They do have a lot of bulk to move around, but they also have bigger suspension components and tires. Combine that with a lower center of gravity and you can horse it around a course quite nicely.

Certainly not tossable like a Miata nor as neutral as our Contour, but one is hard pressed to call one of these rides a pig.

FWIW,

TB

Tony's right. While 4th-gen F-bodies don't have good weight distribution (like a FWD sedan does, LOL) and they seem to have a reputation for being typical "pony cars", they actually do handle better than you'd think. Their suspension geometry is quite solid (although they could use a little more rear axle travel), with a well setup rear and a short-long arm front end. Throw some good dampers on and maybe some stiffer springs (aside from the obligatory subframe connectors) and they handle very well around a road course. Not saying they?re the end-all of handling cars, but just giving some credit where it?s due.

Good point. The 2.5 Duratec was a pretty high tech engine when it first came out in the Contour. Developed a lot of HP/L for an NA engine.

A lot of it is driver too. We have a guy in St. Louis that AutoX's an Impala SS. Typically wins his class too.

I guess my point is a great driver and smart mods can make anything dance.

See here: http://wcsllc.net/stlsolo/2002_results.htm

Look for Bob Ploof and see what his SS is beating. This is his second season AutoXing.

01 Chevy Corvette
92 Chevy Corvette
99 Pontiac Trans AM
99 Ford Mustang Cobra
95 Ford Mustang Cobra
2x 00 Ford Mustang GT
97 Ford Mustang Cobra
01 Ford Mustang Cobra

Just a short list of "pertinent to this thread" car's I spanked at the last Auto-X

Only 3 others (89 Chevy Corvette, 99 Chevy Camaro SS, 98 Chevy Corvette) beat my times.
All three were street prepared or prepared class (slicks & lots of mods)

I think SVT did a good job myself. laugh
