There's nothing IN the constitution about the separation of church and state.
Read the first ammendment;
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
The spirit of the amendment is for the government to not promote a religion or interfere with the practice of religion.
By instituting school prayer, the government would be promoting only religions that require praying. Also they would be interfering with the practice of certain religions that do not require/condone praying to a god.
By having a party platfor that is promoting "divine guidance for judges" the GOP is promoting one religion (christianity) over other religions.
By asking for a ban on abortions (not even getting into the arguement of freedom of choice for women) the GOP is asking for certain religions to not practice one of their beliefs.
Religion and politics don't mix.
Religion and ethics don't mix.
Religion and lodic don't mix.
Religion and humanity don't mix.
If it did (based on christian ethics), blacks would still be slaves, all muslims & aetheists would be dead, jews wouldn't be allowed out of the desert, and priests would be sleeping with little boys.
