The sound was amazing, better than 99% of cars I've heard. You have to hear a radial engine running. If you can hear it up close thats even better. The sound they make is like no other. Its very deep and drony, almost sounds evil and hearing a multi-engine aircraft will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
here is my most favorite war bird. The F4 corsair. Why, the gull wings make it look intimidating, plus it has a 2800 CI 18 cylinder(46 liter) engine that makes over 100 horsepower per cylinder. Click the link for full text and scroll down and theres a section about the water/methanol injection system, it was called "war emergency power"

I'd rather have a go in one of them than in any car bar a 250GTO or a McRae driven WRC car. I'll never forget it.

I always thought the P-51 just inched the P47 out for fastest WW2 prop fighter. eight 50 cals would make short work of anything that had the misfortune of finding it's way into the path of a jug. Those german pilots had balls!!! Some design analysis on the jug, pretty interesting stuff. http://www.rwebs.net/avhistory/history/p-47d.htm and here are some pics of the valkyrie(not that great) http://www.photovault.com/Link/Military/AirForce/Aircraft/XB-70Valkyrie.html
Currently: 2002 ztw focus wagon, black, manual. Yippee it sucks!!

I've always been partial to the 1934 deHavilland DH88 Comet Racer myself. If ever an aircraft was a looker, this one is it. Another good pic. Best images yet.
