I would suggest you snail mail a copy of your cover letter and resume. Remember that you may be in competition with several people for the same position, so you have to set yourself apart from the others in as many "positive" ways possible. By sending the documents electronically and regular mail, you are keeping your name and resume before the company. If timing is an issue, send it over-night by Federal Express or one of the other companies. Should cost around $10 to $15 if memory serves me correctly, but worth it if this is really a job and company you want to work with.
