When I traveled overseas and got really jet-lagged (like 13 hours), I took a tablet of melatonin before bedtime and that corrected my sleep pattern within a day or two. It's a hormone your brain releases naturally when you go to sleep so there aren't any serious side effects. Basically you're just suggesting to your brain to release it at a different time.

I'd also skip the caffeine. That stuff stays in your body for a long time. If you get tired, just will yourself to endure it for a day; if you nap, that could throw off the pattern again.

Josh,

I also work at night, as you well know, and for some reason when I come home I go to bed about 8:30 am and always wake up around 2:30 pm. I know it is more than four hours sleep, but I think it has something to do with sleeping during the day. I'm not sure, but I believe so.

What I've found works when I really want to sleep is I either cover my windows with dark blankets, therefore blocking out the sun, or I just lay in bed with my eyes closed when I wake up at 2:30 or so and then I sleep for several more hours.

I think it also has to do with the fact that for years we've been telling our bodies to "Wake up" when it's day light outside and so when you wake up with daylight outside, you automatically get up. I don't know man.

Hey, you busy tomorrow? Give me a call.

Ambien. smile Its the ****! You will sleep for eight hours and feel great when you wake up. I ate all of mine so I am back to sleeping like normal again.

Melatonin is good, so is Benadryl. The only problem with Benadryl is that it is habit forming and after like a week, it won't touch you.

When I was working nights I painted my window (quad-pane glass) and put foil on the other side. When I was able to go to sleep during the night, I would just slide one of the panes open and the light could get in like normal. But during the day if I closed the window is was pitch black in my room.

There is also a new thing that will dim your lamp slowly over the course of like 30 mins. This way your body thinks that it is getting dark. Obviously it would have to go with a dark room.

Just a few thoughts. wink
