Sorry, qaz, I'm not biting today. Your intentions are clear. I'm done with this thread.

qaz, the McDonald's coffee case was one of the most ludicrous ones I have ever seen. If I were on the jury, only sympathy for her injuries would have stopped me from diva slapping her out of the courtroom. I would also like to know where your standard of 150 degrees came from. Coffee experts recommend coffee to be served between 170 and 190 degrees, and your household coffeemaker holds brewed coffee around 170 to 180 degrees in most cases. She had no case given these facts.

I think liability must be greatly reduced back to a true "reasonable man standard," meaning what a normal, reasonably prudent person would do, not the most perfect and anal person on earth. Sandman... please don't have a heart attack, I agree with you on the concerns of liability, and thank you for suggesting change. I appreciate it, even if we disagree on many things.

On animosity, I do have an animosity towards the laws, not the police officers. I do wish however, that the police officers would also look differently towards these laws.

As far as I know it had been found that McDonald's coffee was significantly hotter than the temperature other restaurants kept their coffee at.

We have a Filterfresh coffee machine at work that dispenses coffee it brews right on the spot, seconds before it enters your cup, and I guarantee you that it's nowhere near 190F, not even 150F, probably closer to 120F. (I haven't exactly measured it but I do know that I don't need ice to cool it down before drinking it).

I believe it had been stated in the case that the reason for brewing coffee at the higher temperatures is to get as much mileage out of the coffee grounds as possible.

Well, I was debating whether or not to delete it...

...but since it bothers you so much, I won't.

The award amount was without a doubt ridiculous, but in a lot of cases of ridiculous award amounts it is appealed and the appellate court lowers the award amount to something "reasonable". (I think reasonable in this case is medical expenses + lost wages, none of this "emotional anguish" crap)
