See, I *KNEW* you were going to say something like that. Common sense tells me that police effectiveness increases when the public image of the police police increases, so whether community policing was designed to increase the public image of the police or to increase police effectiveness doesn't really matter. They go hand-in-hand. And, as far as not being bothered to fight crime, I have called 911 to report things such as minors loitering in a park after dark. As far as turning this into a flame fest, it takes two! I'll keep going as long as you want! Brian Originally posted by Sandman333: No, again you are mistaken. Community Policing is an effort to increase police effectiveness through community involvement. A side benefit is that it increases the public image of the police. See the quote:
"You yell something's got to be done to fight crime, but you can't be bothered to get involved."
I suspect that fits you rather well.

Don't even mention the McDonald's coffee, you don't know the whole story on that one. The coffee in question was well over 150 degrees when it spilled on the woman's leg. I believe it was close to 190 degrees (that's the temperature the thermostat in your Contour's engine opens, if that gives you an idea of how hot that is). The point of the case was that the coffee should NOT have been anywhere near that hot, and frankly, I have to agree. Brian Originally posted by redhawk: would go a long way towards making sure that those cases don't get won. (They are, after all, determined by a jury, are they not?) Yeah because no one ever wins a frivolous lawsuit
Ever hear of McDonalds' coffee?
How about the Stella awards? (Nis provided the past winners for us previously)...
Thanks Nis

If I'm frustrated, you must be a control freak. Brian Originally posted by Sandman333: Must be the reason you are so frustrated.

Thanks Nis [/b]um, you are kidding, aren't you? I thought only one person in the world was that dumb. (well, 13, she was stupid enough to spill the coffee on herself, and 12 jurors couldn't see her stupidity). I see I've wasted my time with you. No convincing the ignorant.

Why don't you let me spill some 190F coffee on your and see if you don't sue the hell out of me? Or beat the crap out of me with your nightstick, as the case might be. I'm not denying that there are ridiculous lawsuits, but the McDonalds one wasn't a very good example... Brian Originally posted by redhawk: Fine, now try to explain away the other ridiculous lawsuits in that thread... Can't do it huh?

Yeah, 'cause you will twist it so that it suits your purpose either way, right?

wow, big effort there. Have you started or do you participate in a neighborhood watch? Do you set an example for others to follow in your driving habits? Is there a police Explorer Scout unit in your area? Do you volunteer your time to help them? Do you do anything to get involved in your community? (I'm sure you will make something up)

Nope, just informed you that I would not go there. If you have to have the last word, be my guest. That is more important to some people than others. As for me, I'm done with you. I don't think you have the capacity to view the issue from any side but your own.

The funny part is that it'd be easy for me to think the same of you, but I don't. And, by the way, I do set an example in my driving. I signal for lane changes, and if someone obviously wants to pass me I will move over for them. If someone is entering a highway on the right, I will move over to allow them to merge if possible. I don't, however, drive slow. I drive to keep up with the flow of traffic, if that means exceeding the speed limit, so be it. I've driven over 120,000 miles and I have been in two accidents (both rear-endings, neither my fault) and I've gotten two speeding tickets. No other tickets or accidents. So....
