The G35 coupe is hot sex! Wish I could afford one. If I could I'd grab a Mini Coop S and save the change.

It's been a tough decision for me between those two. Everything I've read and seen of the Cooper S is great, and it would save me about 10 G's. But the G35 Coupe is the first car I've fallen in love with at first sight, and even after staring at pictures of it for two months now I haven't changed my opinion. The Mini would certainly give me some extra space in the garage, but the G35c is actually 3-4 inches shorter than my Altima anyway so won't be making that situation worse. But it really comes down to the looks and the 280hp (apparently confirmed now) with 0-60 sprints under 6 seconds (basing that on the automatic sedan's 6.2s 0-60 times). I'm hooked.

First, I hope you all are taking the topic of this post and some of my statements herein in the light nature intended. I love my SVT Contour, and many things about it I prefer over the Altima. But I needed a new 4-door sporty car and nothing Detroit or Germany offers come close to the Altima at the price.

As for my comparison to the Mustang GT. The following comes from the November 2001, Road & Track.

................Altima 3.5SE 5 spd.....Mustang GT
Price as tested: $24,920...............$$24,163
Curb weight:......3,240 lbs.............3,290 lbs
Power:.........240hp/246 lb/ft......260hp/302lb/ft
Tires:..........215/55-17...........245/45-17
Skidpad:.......... .80 lat g....... .84 lat g
Slalom:............63.3 mph.........64.0 mph
0-60mph:...........6.3 seconds.......6.1 seconds
1/4 mile:......14.8 @ 96.5 mph...14.7 @ 94.7 mph
Fuel mileage: .....20.7 mpg.........17.4 mpg

The larger F Stock Mustang and Camaro, despite their size, for years have been very fast autocross cars equaling Miata times on many occasions. The Altima is in G Stock, a far slower class.

The Altima has no greater body lean than the Contour from what I have so far experienced. Despite the smallish tires, the car has high cornering limits...in the same road surface above the WRX, Celica GT-S, and RSX-S did just .76, .79, and .82 respectively.

The Altima is more isolated from the road with the long wheel base and extensive sound deadening. Nevertheless, when you look down at the speedo, you are frequently startled to learn your speed. Back to work. First, gotta pick up SVT Contour from Ford Service where they replaced water pump and idle air control valve at 56K.

Got it today. Verdict:
1)Easy shifting
2)Overboosted steering
3)Great handling for large car, but TORQUE steer
4)Goes like stink (see TORQUE steer)
5)Comes with mucho standard features
6)Cheaper than you think, $22K cheap enough?
7)21 city/26 highway fuel mileage if I can lay off the right foot.
8)Huge backseat/trunk
9)Built in Smyrna, Tennessee
10)Great-looking. Kept finding myself drawn to my store window to drool in anticipation of closing time.

Will it be an autocross contender. Don't know. My waterpump went south yesterday (56K), got fixed today, and don't know if I should strain the engine at an autocross! But I drove my buddies much heavier A6 Turbo quattro faster than my car so maybe the Altima can do the same? Gotta put some miles on the car before Sunday to complete the break-in period!!!
Heh, Hydro. Tell me what you see in this first post that makes it sould like I'm putting the Contour down. Note the very first line that I said I was acting like a troll as a joke...see the smiley face. You're the one that came into the post with the ghetto attitude, and tried to twist it all around. I was playing a game.

Were you a SZ? Not at the autocross were you? Did you attend any speed event or is your car just for looks. I saw one intimidating black guy there...Antonio. You ain't know Antonio, you punk ass wannabe. Come back when you can drive, write, think and respond with reason. A twenty minute test drive makes you an expert in nothing.

I just want to make sure everyone realizes that I did not start this B.S. with Hydra. The title topic was in jest as were my comments to individuals. Then Mr. badass wanders in and makes trouble. I ain't taking that lying down.

Altima 3.5SE = awesome value for money

There are things I don't like about it, but FOR THE PRICE, what a package.

SVTCole - congrats.

Just like the Contour...there's things we overlook to enjoy the things we covet.
