i dont know if all state laws are the same, but usually when your fired, if a future employer calls for verification, it's illegal to tell them you were fired. u can only confirm actual employment at the company and employment dates. other than that, u cant say anything. of course, if u r a great employee and your moving on, your previous employer is more than welcome to give a glowing review.
