You're high school had a serious problem if the Macs weren't working. I've had an order of magnitude more trouble with the PC's I've used. No one who has used comperable numbers of PC's and Macs would say that the Macs have more problems.
7.5.3 was one of the best and most stable operating systems Apple ever had. You should get a lot of use out of that machine for web and email the way you set it up... great find!
