You'd think whomever threw this thing out would have taken it to goodwill instead...
I still think Macs are strange machines that cost too much, but since I went through the trouble of salaving this one from the trash pile I might as well use it.
This may sound like a dumb question, but how exactly do you iconify netscape windows (if it's even possible?) Everytime I switch back to the finder I have to move the netscape windows out of the way...

No one who has used comperable numbers of PC's and Macs would say that the Macs have more problems. 7.5.3 was one of the best and most stable operating systems Apple ever had. You should get a lot of use out of that machine for web and email the way you set it up... great find!

The closest thing you can do is double-click on the title bar, which will "roll up" the window, like a real windowshade, such that only the title bar remains. If you have OS 8 or above, it's an option in your Control Panels. If not, then you'll have to find and download WindowBlinds (I think that's what it was called).

Mac's are definately great. I've had my share of them, and I still have my 500mhz iMac. My last job I was working as an apple certified tech. Sure, we saw lots of broken machines (why would someone bring in a working one, right?), but the majority of the problems were software. Either someone moving system componets around or trying to use dated software on the latest and greatest. As for the quality of the machines, for personal use, you can't beat a mac. Sure, they a cost a bit more than the cheapo mom & pop pc that is outdated by the time you get it home, but the os is definately more powerful and much more stable.
Qaz> OS 7.5.3 isn't too bad, but I'd also grab the 7.5.5 update. A couple minor bugs were fixed.

Until OSX came out, multitasking was nearly NIL. There was some cooperative multitasking when the application was written for it but not often. Remember back in the days of multitasking for windows 3.1 ? Ya that was great huh.
Anyway the only thing I think is great about a mac is that its simple to use. Now that OSX has come out, its gotten a tad more complicated. If I had to get my mother a computer, I could give her a MAC but now its the same for its learning curve so I may as well give her a PC running Win2K or XP. One that will be faster and cheaper.
Again, I think macs are fine for learning with because it was easy but they were far from stable. Random bombs..etc and just try and kill a task. 99% of the time it will hang the finder anyway. Great.
Anyway maybe I've just had bad luck with them but two of my friends converted to PC about a year and a half ago and are happy. They do agree that the MAC OS interface looks nice but XP is getting there...

Why would they trash that thing? It's worth at least $25 alone, and if not then they could have donated it to somebody who needs it. I've got an older MAC lying around, with a 17" monitor. PM me if you're interested.
