actually the big dig started almost 15 years ago. and once the highway is sunk, the work will begin above ground to make way for 30 acres of new open space downtown. about 8 acres of which will be public park land, the rest will be access paths, roadways, a botanical garden, housing, and some retail.

i went on a tour of the Dig 2 weeks ago. walked the whole legth of the tunnel from the Zachim bridge to Chinatown. the idea is amazing. and the technology is very cutting edge for the US. let's just hope it works!!!

and plans are already underway for the next big project in Boston. MassHighway and the BRA are working to create new spaces on parcels of land over the Mass Turnpike. The Turnpike Authority will sell the air rights to developers who are looking at various mixed use developments to reconnect three areas of Boston to the South End. The three areas are Chinatown, Back Bay, and Fenway.
