You have to keep in mind that there is the buy rate and there is the sell rate. That is how they make money. $1.68 is about normal right now for exchanging Canadian into US currency. That's how they make their money. You almost always lose money when you change currency. That's why you want to do it as little as possible. The best thing to do if you are traveling is to use your credit card. You get the best exchange rate for that day and you don't have to worry about changing money around. Lance and I have experience with this as his parents live in Canada right now. If you use your credit card you end up usually getting a good deal. Lance and I sent his mom an arrangement of a dozen roses for her birthday. It cost $74.05 Canadaian and we paid $48.68 US! What a deal! It pays to do it that way, because when you change from US currency to Canadian you don't get as much for your buck and if you have any left over you get less back for your buck. If you just put it on the credit card, you get more for your money!
