I'm surprised that you even converted your money going to Canada to begin with.
I went for a business trip for a week and we didn't bother to convert. Each time we went to a store or whatnot, we asked "do you take US" and they always said yes. they did the conversion for us and took our money.
and I'm sure you could just use a credit card if they said no.
