i was watching a show a few weeks back (can't remember if it was dateline or 20/20) but they were saying how YEARS ago, the Russians had suitcase nuclear weapons...i believe about 20 of them. However, to this day, they only know of 13 and cannot find the other 7. The 13 have been successfully destroyed (so they say) but its kinda scary that 7 are missing.....no idea where they are.
The US isn't too worried about it because they said the suitcases that they came in would in NO WAY pass ANY metal detector....as they re-constructed a suitcase to the original specs....
there is HEAVY metal involved and if the metal got by somehow, the shape of the internals would trigger a search....
****don't quote me on the exact numbers....but it is a low number like that and I do think i have the numbers correct****
