I just watched the trailer on TV,,,Is it just me, or isnt it weird that the Russian Backfire bombers that are attacking the aircraft carrier have to get like 600 yards from it before they fire the missiles??...
I wonder if they are wire guided...LOL..I personally cant see that happen,,,

Personally I love how the storyline changes from a militant middle eastern terrorist finding an old Israeli bomb to a missing Russian bomb. Hmmmm are we trying to be a bit PC here?

The Nazi's stole it. but anyways I think it looks pretty good. There are technicalities in every movie. I was watching on Tech TV yesterday and they were interviewing the stars and a CIA agent that was used for refrence during the intire filming. The agent said that the movie is the best real acount of how the CIA works hes seen yet and many of his people agree. I think Tom Clancy movies are great, while I dont konw why Harrison Ford is being replaced with Ben Afleck (not that I have a problem with Afleck there just Fords movies)I will be there tomorrow.

I think Tom Clancy's first two books : The Hunt of Red October and Red Storm Rising are the best...after that, I can live without em. I will never forget them for putting a chrome periscope in the russian sub. It was shinier than a 57 caddy.

Hunt for Red October is my favorite movie of all time and although I typically don't like his other movies much, Alec is the best Jack Ryan. I want to see the new movie but I'm not sure if I can accept Ackfleck as Jack.

i was watching a show a few weeks back (can't remember if it was dateline or 20/20) but they were saying how YEARS ago, the Russians had suitcase nuclear weapons...i believe about 20 of them. However, to this day, they only know of 13 and cannot find the other 7. The 13 have been successfully destroyed (so they say) but its kinda scary that 7 are missing.....no idea where they are.
The US isn't too worried about it because they said the suitcases that they came in would in NO WAY pass ANY metal detector....as they re-constructed a suitcase to the original specs....
there is HEAVY metal involved and if the metal got by somehow, the shape of the internals would trigger a search....
****don't quote me on the exact numbers....but it is a low number like that and I do think i have the numbers correct****

It would be a much better movie if they didn't change the damn plot. They books are always better where Tom Clancy is concerned. And you guys are right about the Backfires being a little too close. The ASM (Air/Surface Missile) Kitchen missiles they carry mut travel at least 2 miles before arming anyway, so they would have punched big holes in the carrier and that's it. On top of that, where the hell are the AEGIS destroyers and cruisers which are supposed to be protecting against air threats. There's always one AEGIS type vessel no further than 5 miles out from the carrier anyway. If it doesn't kill the incoming missiles, then it will take the hits for the targetd vessel, in this case a carrier. Oh well, I guess being in the Navy I know certain things about fleet deployment strategy that other people just can't possibly know, including the director of Sum of All Fears.

Russians have used chromium plated periscopes, but I can't remember the reason why at the moment. I thought it had something to do with reducing the wake effect as compared to painted or bare metal.
