Sandman, quick question for you.... Has the public's view of police officers changed any in your tenure as one? And if so, has it gotten worse or has it gotten better? Just like I thought? Police officers have been placed into the category you have so described for many years. They were probably generalized as the ?donut eating, coffee drinking, holier than thou, tax collectors on wheels? cretins you talk about in your little quip to Mr. Citizen, even while you were in the academy, right? Then why in the hell did you take the job? Let me guess?. because you love it. Well, then accept the fact that nothing you do or say on this board is going to change the way police officers are viewed. All you have done is reinforce the stereotype that has been created. If you all you are gonna do is quote law, followed by some name calling and your opinions of others, stop posting! It is useless dribble! That is my .02 Oh, and page 3 biznitches!!!!!!

However, as the saying goes, there is nothing new under the sun. I don't believe the public's perception has gotten any worse (excluding incidents that are misportrayed in the media, such as the Rodney King incident), and it may indeed have gotten a little better. It really depends on where you are and what department we are talking about. Police officers have been placed into the category you have so described for many years. They were probably generalized as the “donut eating, coffee drinking, holier than thou, tax collectors on wheels” cretins you talk about in your little quip to Mr. Citizen, even while you were in the academy, right?Probably long before I was born, truth be told. Then why in the hell did you take the job? Let me guess…. because you love it. Well, then accept the fact that nothing you do or say on this board is going to change the way police officers are viewed.I never expected that it would; though it might possibly give some in here a bit to think about. I did not write that, the author is unknown to me. All you have done is reinforce the stereotype that has been created. If you all you are gonna do is quote law,Gee, I got some thank-yous, and at least one 5 star rating, for quoting law. Seems it has it's merits afterall... If I did not have the law on my side, you can believe that there would be many members here lining up to chastise me. Well, it is on my side, and I used to as it is intended. followed by some name calling and your opinions of others, stop posting! It is useless dribble! That is my .02My .02? I don't need your approval to post anything here or elsewhere. There was no name calling, just observations. I have backed those observations up with the reasons why I made them. Others have posted their opinion of me (as it seems you are doing now), and so I feel free post mine of them. Don't want to read what I write? No one is forcing you to. Just skip over every post authored by me. Simple, eh?

Name calling in your opinion, reasonable observations in mine. I guess that no one should be able to offer their opinion of others and their behavior? A little communistic, don't you think?
He certainly offered his opinion of me, he just hid it better. I prefer not to mince words. Again, if you don't want to read my posts, skip them. Thought you would have figured that out by now.

Sorry I have to hop in.
Sandman, I like cops, I like their cars and I kind of envy their jobs but I noticed something with you today. When your on the road it's normal for you to have the last word but as a man of the law, as man that protects and makes sense in people why do you need to have the last word here on the forum...
I know you tried helping somebody and somehow it ended up in this. Sometimes isn't it just better to let go?
Come on guys, just go write some cool stuff in other topics. Nobody wants to see discussion like these on CEG. It won't bring us anywhere!
No offense to anybody!

No offense to anybody! Yeah, I hear you. It was not my intention to "have the last word". I was too busy laughing at the troll material being spewed everywhere (such as the post above yours). Even I need a little comic relief now and then. Oh, and I doubt I'll make it to SZ or any other meets. I don't think my car is all that special that it would have anything to offer to one of these meets. (no real mods, can't afford them)

Could someone please tell me the definition of a troll? Pardon my ignorance but I thought a troll was a "poster" that only signed up to start talking smack or get some digs in on a specific post. Is a troll now someone who is new to the thread and questions the validity of the respondent? EDIT: Am I trolling now? ...excluding incidents that are misportrayed in the media, such as the Rodney King incident... What the heck is to be misportrayed about a guy getting his head kicked in by numerous officers well after the "threat to the public" has been neutralized?

What the heck is to be misportrayed about a guy getting his head kicked in by numerous officers well after the "threat to the public" has been neutralized? The media did not play the entire tape. They (purposely) edited out the beginning of the tape which showed Mr. King's aggressive behavior toward the officers. They also failed to mention in any form his assaults on numerous officers and the extensive chase he led. Now, I am not saying that those officers were justified in everything they did. Certainly, they were not. I, like many in law enforcement, was shocked to see them aquitted. However, the media's portrayal of the incident is only one small portion of the entire story. You need to view the entire tape to understand. The media is as much to blame for the resulting riots as anyone. (And I do not buy the reason for the riots being the King beating. Sorry, but if that were the case, why was there looting of minority businesses? Those that participated in the riots simply wanted an excuse to break the law and take what they wanted, with no regard for anyone else. They, too, are a plague upon society.)
