I like this guy. Send me an application for where you're at. I'm almost ready to get out of the military and will be looking for civil law enforcement. Great answers Sand!

that is a bunch of bs, what about all those ugly civics and their exhaust? tell they judge that it's not that loud nad ask him if he wants to hear it. that's how my friend got out of it when the cop gave him a ticket for his tint then he took it off and got out of the ticket. put the baffles in and say that's how it was when you got pulled over. bring up the part about the civics and other loud cars too.

haaha, I had forgotten about this post, almost a year ago now, anyway for anyone who cars, I called and was able to get one continuence on the court day, still couldn't make it to the next court date, (still in NY at the time) so it ended up being a $110 fine. I can still remember, it happened like 2 days after I put it in, anyway no ones bothered me since, lets hope it stays that way...

can't fight it anymore, I just ended up paying the fine, it was about 6 months ago. I didnt have the exhaust the last time the car was tested, but i'll just put the baffles back in, shouldn't be a problem getting it to pass

Just a little rant on police and modified exhausts.

I have complete confidence in Montreal cops. They are so understaffed, they could care less about your seatbelt or your mildly modified exhaust. You might find one thats having a bad day, but to get stopped for exhaust noise, you would have to fit the obnoxious profile:

Blaring stereo
Slouching position
Blatant overabundance of gold or semi gold jewelry
Reversed cap

Now if you combine the above with hispanic or african american descent, things are not looking up for you (guess what, profiling is not USA exclusive...)

The real bother here is some small towns have instituted ticket quotas, that must be met per officier. That brings BS stops like you would not believe (I have been stopped with 70% tint in the front windows, unheard of in most sane municipalities of Quebec)

Every motor vehicle driven or operated upon the highways of this

This means that, in IL, if your modified exhaust system causes fumes to accumulate in the car, or if it releases a higher sound level than that of the OEM system, it is illegal. It can be readily apparent to an officer on the street that your vehicle is louder than OEM, even without a sound level measuring device.

--- Just the facts.
I know all about that. Got pulled over for that one. mad

Well, for once I'm happy that I live in PA. Our exhaust laws set specific dB levels to be met and an extensive test to be performed before a system can be determined to be non-compliant. Not only does it stop the BS "louder than stock" stops/tickets, it also makes an officer be darn sure he can make it stick, as he and the subject need to make an appointment at a State Police testing center to check the sound level. In addition, the levels are prety reasonable (in the high 70 - low 80 dB depending on speed - at a distance of 50 feet). I forget the specifics, but I know where to lok it up if I need it.

Haven't had to use that nugget of knowledge yet, but one of these days I'm going to hit the local police on a bad day and find out first hand how that test works.

I personally think that Harleys are the most annoying noise producing machines on earth. Why would anyone want to ride that for hours on end is beyond me. Its like smoking....you have your pleasure, but its one that annoys a lot of bystanders...Just start them up in your garages with sound deadening materials....Image,,,who gives a hoot about image,,,

He's chaaarging!!!...(add scottish accent)...
