Notice that I did not say all cops, I was only refering to the ones giving tickets. In NY this happens to rest on the State Police as a whole. When I start seeing people being ticketed for things other than speeding I might change my decision

I give tickets for speeding, as well as all manner of traffic violations. How do you know what that person being pulled over on the side of the road was stopped for? I just love it when people assume what they do not know.

Consider that I give far more verbal warnings than written citations, it's likely that it actually costs my department for me to bother to stop people to correct a bad driving habit. Departments, and government in general, do not make money on traffic fines. You have no knowledge of how the system works if you think that.

Next time you need a cop (traffic accident, got mugged, etc.), call 911 and ask them to "send some pigs out to you". mad

I speed all the time on the highway. I have 3 tickets in my 11 year driving history: 71/65 in OH (really 80 but showing my uncle's MD State Police business card made Mr. Trooper quite friendly), 80/65 in PA (Memorial Day weekend, no name dropping was going to help), and 75/55 and improper passing on the right locally.

Know what I did? For the first two speeding tickets, I wished the officer a safe day and mailed a check when I got home because I knew I was guilty. For the third, I was on the way to the hospital where my wife had been taken and told the trooper this ("I know this is no excuse, but ..."). He wrote me for "Failing to Heed a Traffic Control Signal (Speed Limit Signs)" and told me to plead not guilty and bring evidence supporting my story. In the end he never showed for trial.

One thing I didn't do was call them pigs and whine and complain about getting pulled over. I know that speeding is illegal, and if I get caught then the responsibility is on me. If I wanted to guarantee that I would never get a ticket, then I would obey the posted limits.

Our wages are payed by taxes, NOT by citations, and believe me, we don't make enough money for what we have to put up with. In many cases, people working at McDonalds are making more than me. Ride with a cop sometime and see what it's like. People think all we do is run traffic, because that is where we are most likely to be seen. In an eight hour day, I MIGHT run 1 hour of traffic. I have gone over a month without writing a traffic citation before. Still we are sworn to uphold the law, however unsignificant that law might be in your eyes. In the case of speeding, many people don't have the skill to control their vehicles in speeds above the limit, and that's why we have them, you all know of the people I'm talking about... Of course everyone on this board knows how to handle their machine, and push it to the limits wink But that shouldn't be done on pulbic roads where other lives are in danger. I will agree that there are many cops that are just on a power trip, and are out to get people on every and any little thing they can, I've met them, but there are many more out there that are fair and reasonable. Just remember we're out their doing our jobs so yours lives will be safer and better. It's a hard job, people look at you different when they find out your a cop. That's why when I go out, I have to go to another city where people don't recognize me, it sucks. I guess cops are not supposed to dink beer, and I live in Wisconsin, there's more beer here than water. What's a guy do do?
