We (friend, his family and I) were driving around in southern Indiana today, and on the way back home got pulled over by a Union county sheriff. I had just driven thru a slight right hand sweeper at around 55-60mph on S.R. 101. Of course right after the turn I began slowing down due slower traffic ahead (but they were still doing over 50).

Anyhow about this time a sheriff happens to be coming from opposing direction and immediately after passing me turns on his lights and starts turning around his car. He speeds up to me and pulls me over. He asks the question "How fast do you thing you were going?" I answer 50 sir? He says " 56 ", and returns to his cruiser with my licence and reg.

After a few minutes he returns with a speeding ticket for doing 57 in 45.

[RANT ON!]

I suppose I need to and take it to court and give the judge some "2-bags full" sob story how I wouldn't ever endanger my friends by driving dangerously or how I was occupied observing the curve and the traffic ahead, causing me to temporarily and unintentionally exceed the posted speed limit...

Of course this is the end of the month and state is cutting it's spending and those tiny counties need all the income they can get. And of course me being busted for DUI before they can feel better over their hypocritical ego for making up for their own failures.

I suppose I should try to pull some strings and see if I can get off charges (it's not who you are, it's who you know). But if not, what are the likehood of this hill-billy sheriff showing up in traffic court? Especially if I can scheduled for afternoon. And the possibility of just getting traffic schools etc but no points? I doubt I need a lawyer, probably just add cost anyways. Besides them good-ole-boys don't take likin to city-slickers or their lawyers.

the primary purpose of cops giving traffic tickets is to generate revenue.

I know how you feel though, I got screwed in court last week but the biggest a$$hole judge ever.

Remember, it's these "pigs" that keep you and your family safe at night. You broke the law (hell, 46 in a 45 is ILLEGAL) and you got caught. I speed all the time, and I've been ticketed too, but bit^ching about it is only going to cause stress and more headaches. Pay the ticket, go to traffic school, do whatever you have to do, but learn from your mistake. And don't take this as a lecture, I'm 19; not 60.

And from what I've heard, the cop WILL be in court, they get paid OT pay for that kinda thing, and if I was a cop, I'd be there any time they asked me to.

Please don't call cops pigs.

I hate speed traps. I think they are a poor waste of law enforcement manpower but I still respect the people that do it.

Be upset. Say it's unfair. Try to pull strings. Move out of the country.

But please, please don't call cops pigs. They don't deserve it.

Having been ticketed several times and currently on probation for speeding I feel your pain.

However I agree with Redhawk (what up man) that cops shouldn't be called pigs. Sometimes a few of them abuse their powers and get on some ego trip type **** but for the most part the rest of them are just doing their jobs. Hell the cop that pulled me over the speeding ticket for which I'm currently on probation for was supposed to impound my car and take me to jail (110 in 60) but he played it cool for which I was very grateful.

In the end when the **** hits the fan they're the first people we call when there's a serious problem. They're also the people we expect to protect our family and friends when we're not around.

Thats his opinion and if this is the way he thinks about cops, so be it! How can you tell this guy not to call cops pigs?

Umm, If he was DRIVING the other direction, how did he clock you going 57?

So how does this pretrial diversion work?

I could express my opinion and call him a $hithead but I won't out of respect.

I'm sure the families of the NYPD officers who gave their lives on 9/11 would appreciate not having their loved ones referred to as pigs.
