Even pit bulls don't usually act that way unless they're conditioned to. The owner is definitely guilty of improper/inadequate training, regardless of how bad he might feel after an attack occurs. It's easier to apologize than to train your dog properly.

If it was my dog that was attacked: the Pit would have a broken neck immediately. I have owned a Pit, and they are very gentle animals (seriously, my neice would pull things she wasn't supposed to and he would just wince and lick her face)....they have to be trained to do crap like that. The dog is a time bomb....it is attacking animals right now: if it gets out and you try to break them apart without his owner ther...it might be you he decideds to go for the throat. It is best to get the dog put down.....sorry to say it but he ruined a great dog.......ask AussieSVT....I llove pits....but that one is dangerous.

His male was agitated and used to fight. I have known since day 1 that his dog is crazy and attacks all other animals. His dog is fine around people, at least up to this point.

lynx0v - I don't want this to turn into a gun control debate. I have many firearms that are all locked up and out of reach of my son. He is going to learn to use and respect firearms as he grows up. It's people that never let there kids even look at firearms that peeks curiosity and results in accidental shootings. If you don't have a firearm in your house then I guess you don't have anything worth protecting.

In addition I told him last night he has to get rid of his dog and he promised he would. As I was leaving his place I said again "So your getting rid of twiggy, right?" He replied "I guess I don't have a choice, do I" I said "No, you don't."

Now do I give him a deadline, say Memorial day, to get the dog out?

Don't let a friends dog attack your dog, it's a weird situation... confused

BTW - My dog seems fine, he's got a puncture wound under his eye, and 2 on his chest. He's been licking his chest a lot, I'm going to bring him to the vet to get him checked out tomorrow...

Did you call the Humane Society! They will take animals away if they are not properly maintain which includes being able to escape and attack other animals. We are going thru the same thing right now. Our dog got loose and a pit picked him up and tried ot snap his neck. He has sitches from shoulder bald to throat the long way!

First of all, take your dog to the vet man - Don't you know dogs cry in fear not pain?

Second, I would make some calls to the local authorities...if the dog gets out enough, the dog will be taken care of. Obviously, this guy has not trained his dog correctly...I've never met a pit that was mean/crazy unless it was trained to be (ie: fighting). If all else fails like mentioned before, some prestone flavored doggie biscuits will do the trick, I hate to recommend it but i've seen it done before.

Incorrect...that is not the reason I do not have a firearm.
A dog that used to fight will not attack a dog to just attack it. It is attacking it to KILL it. The next time you might not be around....is it worht the loss of your dog? I love dogs, ask anyone that knows me how my Boxer is treated. The pit needs to be put down. It is not teh Pits fault....it is the owners.

Judge - I was responding to someone who asked why I had a gun in my house when I have a young child. The gun thing wasn't relating to my neighbor's dog, see page 1.
