I was thinking I might want to get an older 911 sometime. Just a fun car that has some history to it's breed. Anyone have experience with these vehicles? What's a good year and what should I look for when purchasing one?
Thanks

1984 model look for rusting floor boards. make sure it has the updated oil pump(can't remember if 84 had it or not)forget how you can tell either. i have an old Road and Track, that has all the things you can look for to make a sound descision. Let me know if you really are interested and I could let you know more.
Can't afford a 911 yet!

There's a book called "The Used 911 Story" from Red Line Service that will help you out. It's $20.95, or was when I was kind of thinging about looking for a 911. It was recommended to me by a few guys on the renntech list.
Red Line Service 720 Colorado Blvd. Santa Monica, CA 90401 (310) 450-7414
I never ordered the book, but it came highly recommended. IIRC, amazon.com only sold used copies of it, and it was published in the mid 80s or something, so I don't know if you'll be able to find it very easily.
There are a few websites that explain the differences in model years, and what to look for. If I remember what they are I'll let you know.

Fun cars.. How old are you thinking? Coupe, Targa, or Convertible? RWD or AWD? Have you also considered an older 944 or 944 Turbo? Maybe a 968? How much are you looking to spend?

How much are you looking to spend? You can definitely get faster on the cheap in a 944/951 as I still think of doing. However, nothing beats the handling or heritage of a 911. If it's a PORSCHE that you want, not just to go fast in a car with a Porsche crest on the hood then get a 911. Does that make sense?

I know nothing about Porshe's, except that I like them.
Good luck on finding the one that you want...
