I did a search and only found one thing about anyone saying they heard a Ford Mach 1000 sound system and so I was wondering if anyone has heard them and what they thought of them.....looks impressive on paper but then again the Contour has "premium" speakers and cardboard sounds better..

I was test driving an 02 GT that had one in it. Made my hair move and I have short hair. Like an inch or so. Very very very sweet. 1140 watts and it is soooo clean.
*in Forrest Gump voice* That's all I got to say about that.

Almost bought the car for that reason alone.

I have a dream, and that is a 69 Boss 302 with Jules Asner in it.

Funny you mention this as there is a Mustang Cobra with the Mach 1000 stereo in our lobby right now. It was also in our lobby sometime last summer which is when I heard it.

It got loud and moved some air, but it did not impress me. I thought it sounds like crap, very distorted bass, and the radio has some gimicky DSP logic. For $1295 more than the Mach 460, I could build a heck of a lot better sounding and louder system.

APT, you should clarify that it is not a 2003MY Cobra (the car is a 99 IIRC) as the Mach 1000 is not available on the new Cobra. (of course it wasn't on the old ones either . . .)

FWIW, the Cobra in our lobby is an M-plate car, probably a test mule for whatever group is developing that stereo system. I think it is a 2001 Cobra as it has the Mustang in the rear bumper, not the 99's with Cobra. Certainly not a 2003 Cobra. And it has the orange Visteon energy swirl sewn into the headrests.

I suppose it could sound very different than the production version in the 2002 GT's. I think the Mach 460 sounds pretty good for an OEM system, but the only difference I am aware of with the 1000 system is some functionality in the HU & two 10" subs in the trunk with their own amps. Not worth the asking price.

Oh, crap, we make those. So, I guess I should say they are the best investment in a Mustang so I can get a profit sharing check next year. Oh, well. I never said I was loyal.

No questions that the Mach 460 and 1000 are great for a stock system.
But any decent stereo shop could build a cleaner, louder system for half what the dealership would want for either system.
The Mach 1000 has a 2% THD, which is pretty horrible by audiophile standards, but when compared to the average OEM stereo of 5% sounds pretty damn good.
Also 6"x8" woofers are being used, which is good for high bass, but bad for midrange.
And 2.5" Tweeter/Mid is a good idea, but implemented wrong.
The cross-over frequencies were well selected,
120Hz and below to subs, 120Hz-5kHz on woofers, and 2.5kHz-20kHz on Tweeter/Mid.
The big plus is that in can upgraded very cheaply and fast with a few aftermarket parts.

Sorry, you got that backwards. 99's say Mustang, 01's say Cobra.

Very few of life's problems can not be solved with the reasonable application of more horsepower!

I wanted the bullit wheels so I had to buy the GT premium, the GT premium comes with the mach 460 standard.

The mach 1000 is a $1200.00 option and you get two 10?s, more amps, and MP3 on top of the mach460?s 6cd in-dash HU, and speaker/amp setup. I did not opt for the 1000, I agree you could much better yourself for $1200.00.

Bottom line IMO is that the mach460 is a steal, and I don?t think you can find a better stock system in a sub-25G car. The mach1000 better sound frigg?in awesome for $1200.00

Maybe they changed this but I heard you can't get the mp3 option with the 1000....only with the 460...

Thanks for the replies though....I was jst curious! smile
