The "bet double" theory does not really work.
It is very possible, and probable, to lose more than 5 hands in a row.
The chance of losing ten hands in a row is 20.8%.
The chance of winning ten hands in a row is 11.2%.
The chance of losing 5 hands in a row is 32.5%.
The chance of winning 5 hands in a row is 15.4%.
This chance of losing two hands in a row 67%.
The chance of winning two hands in a row 33%.
The most common outcome of 5 hands is win 2 lose 3.
It happens 87% of the time.
This is why if you play blackjack long enough, you will lose your money.
On average I can make ~500 bucks in a day.
That takes about $100 to start and 6 hours of play.
(I play the $5 tables).
You don't have to count cards to play affectively, just know the percentages for 10's (including face cards), Aces, and combinations that make 10 & 11.
It has taken me about a year to get good.
But I still lose frequntly in tournaments.
