Sujeet,

take this from me. I work for the largest professional services firm in the world so this is good stuff!

Its a game called truth and lie. Every person comes up with two truths and one lie. Everyone has to guess the lie and of course if someone guesses wrong you explain why it is the truth.
Examples:

I once drove over 140mph!

I traveled to Greece and visited the Collesium in Athens.

I have failed the CPA exam twice!

Now you guess the lie.

Your right, I never did travel to Greece but I once for the thrill of it took my car up to 142mph on a deserted patch of freeway at 3am.

Yeah, I work too many hours and haven't studied hard enough to pass my CPA exam yet. I'm hopeful that in November I will get pass two parts.

Its great fun and you can play this little game each morning to get people warmed up over the course of 5-days. You actaully get to know some good stuff about people.

I go to a lot of training courses~!

This sounds like the best idea so far, thanks!

As for everyone else, video games are out, and we can't leave the classroom. At one of my old jobs, I took my crew out to play Paintball for the day, and then we got drunk at TGI Fridays afterwards. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to do that here smile

As for "Whisper down the lane", I'd feel kind of retarded playing that with a bunch of 20-30 year olds.. Then again, this whole exercise seems stupid to me. :p

Oh dude, what ever you do, don't start by saying the common "Let's go around the room and each one of us will tell us about themselves". People hate that $hit, and it's an automatic buzz kill. I know what you mean, this is a bit of an annoying task, but you do have to make your team feel comfortable with you.

First find out if they are all comfortable with each other, that will give you a better idea of what you are up against, and you'd be half way home if they do. From past experience, I can tell you that if you bring silly games into the picture, afterwards it will be criticized as childish and rediculous and will be made fun of by the team. Not saying that all of the ideas from everyone else are stupid, just saying that the team may not appreciate them.

Our team leader took the group to Applebees (I was not there that day), but it seem to work. Not meening you have to order alchoholic drinks, but it's a relaxed atmosphere for everyone, and they can open up better.

Now, what did your boss mean by saying "I want you EACH to come up with an ice-breaker exercise"?

There are 3 team leads, one for each shift (we run a 24/7 support center). So all 3 team leads, and the whole group of new support guys are all meeting this week together to get started.

This isn't my idea of a good time, but it's what the boss wants.. A part of me agrees with you, that this might actually be counter-productive, but what can I do? I'm going to talk with the other leads tomorrow and see what they're thinking about all of this.
