I live in Tucson, 60 miles north of Nogales Mexico. I've been down there and deeper many times. It is horrendous the way some of those people have to live, and I have my opinion, like everyone else, on the situation.
Our country was founded on immigration, however it usually took the form of exploiting those 'ignorant','poor','undereducated' people from other countries who came here for a better life. Is it wrong? Maybe.
Maybe those hundereds of thousands of Irish who suffered in sweat-shops and worse were wrong, even though their decendents are now found in a range from poverty to sentorial posts.
The Chinese working the railroads. That's as close to indentured servitude as you can get, but they are reputed as a hard-working, 'silent/uncomplaining' group that has succeeded very well here. The list goes on and on.
What I am trying to say is I do not blame people for coming here. I say go for it. However, DO NOT BLAME THEIR POVERTY ON THE U.S.! Most groups in America started off the same way and there weren't any charity organizations handing out free money when they got off the boat or jumped the fence. They made it on hard work and so have many Latin Americans.
Things are different today, but it mostly still applies. However the handouts ARE there. There is a family from Latin America that was given a FREE HOME here in Tucson that was nicer than the house I own! FREE, just because they were selected as the 'poster child' of the Pro-Immigration movement! Damn it I worked to have this house and nothing has come free!
I am happy that they are becoming Citizens, but that was just too much...Try giving them education and a Job.
Back to the point...If they want to cross legally or illegally, more power to them. If they die in the attempt then so be it, but that is their own responsibility.
This has become the land of 'free-handouts' where terrorist can come to our country and educate themselves so that they can later come back and use it to kill us in a fit of spiteful jealousy.
And last, Think of a diamond that you spend $3K on to give to your Wife. It's quite valuable. Now think, how valuable it would be if there were fountains filled with diamonds on every corner that you could pick up and take with you?
Would you value diamonds as much then?
So it should be with Citizenship in the Greatest Country of our time. If it costs so much to become a citizen, even RISK of death, then MAYBE they will treat it as the valuable commodity that it is!
