Decided to remove the rubber thing that runs between the airbox and fenderwell (pardon me if I f*ck up some of the terms). When I looked at the airbox I noticed what seems like an air-chanelling device (black, cylindrical plastic piece) that sits under the filter. I toyed with the idea of taking it out, but wondered if it might hinder the cars ability to suck air properly since it won't deposit the air so close to the opposite end of the filter. I hope somebody knows what I'm getting it.

Also, if I should take it out, how in the Hell do you do it? I didn't want to snap it, but it seems like the only way to remove it.

Let me look at before you go snapping anything.

Before I installed my KKM, I had removed that internal baffle as well...caused no problems that I'm aware of...

that was the first thing I did when I saw it. I think it's to quiet the intake. No real big performance gains or anything just useless flow restriction.

There's been other posts regarding "opening up" the airbox (check old forums) & yes the cone part is an attempt at silencing the intake noise.

I sliced the cone off, left the rubber coupler connected (as a possible source for cooler air) & opened up the sides of the airbox for more airflow.

While some people on this board advocate a K&N drop in filter, I feel that a paper element eliminates the need for re-oiling periodically with no contamination of the MAF.

The only penalty for opening up the air cleaner is a more frequent replacement of the filter element. Difference in sound occurs only under acceleration. Normal driving is quiet (sleeper mode).

Seat-of-pants dyno indicates better response all around (Zetecs need all the help they can get!).

Cheers! smile

What the hell were they thinking when they did all this crap. Intake resonator in the air box, worse intake resonator on the TB.

I assume you haven't found the huge "snorkel" resonator that's inside the fender? It's on the other side of the rubber connector and curves all the way over the fender behind the fender liner. It's close to 2 feet long!
