Basically, what do you plan to offer those people who have owned GTI's, Civic Si's, Escort GT/ZX2/ZX3, and are ready to make a step up in the world, but aren't ready for or don't want a BMW?
P.S. I would love to have words with the designer who designed the Focus' awful driving position. Who ever thought it would be comfortable to drive in a desk chair? Funny, the seating position is one of my buying factors. I've been looking for a car that I can sit and not lay in for a long time. I find the Contour's seating position pretty bad, espescially on long trips. The Only reason I'm not getting the FSVT is IT'S TOO DAMNED EXPENSIVE for a Focus (yes I know it's not just a normal Focus) Troy, when are you guys going to put the damn 3L in that thing? I've seen a V8 RWD conversion, so why not the 3.0? I liked the rotary recline in my Jetta, and in the Contour, why don't all cars have it? And why don't you guys put the climate control from the Euro Focus in the SVT? And why did you leave that bottom lip Black on the front facia? I hate that look!

Troy, when are you guys going to put the damn 3L in that thing? We have one with the SVT 2.5 in it. We didn't do it because the primary direction we took with the SVT Focus was handling not 0-60. Not to mention the enormous amount of packaging issues we would have and trying to implement it in the plant. And why don't you guys put the climate control from the Euro Focus in the SVT? I think you answered this question above. Price. In it's class, which is extremely price sensitive, it is very competitive.

I can't remember your ownership history, Honkeytonk. Did you own a SVT prior to this? Did it have a 10-way power seat? I like to sit torso upright, but extend the legs, otherwise my knees are in pain. I find the SVT version can be very comfortable, especially since the power tilt lets you raise the front of the seat, pushing you against the seatback, and providing thigh support.
The Focus should have been designed to offer more adjustability in both height and fore/aft to accomodate both driving positions.
Are you SURE there's no way to put a performance sedan in a size between the Focus and the Taurus? It's a gaping hole in the lineup, and I really don't want a Family Truckster. 185" long would be ideal.

My ownership history (minus my 82 and 86 Jettas) is in my sig, the Contour is it, no matter now I sit my knees touch the dash, if I slide the seat back further I have to hold my arms straight out to hold the steering wheel. In the Focus, the Wheel tilt/telescopes, so I can move the seat back as far as I want, so my legs are straighter, and tilt the seatback forward. The Seat can also has a recline adjustment, so my legs get support to. Did you drive the base model, or one with the sport seats and tilt/telescoping wheel? I wouldn't doubt the SVT seats being more comfortable than my Contour's. I should have worded it that way I guess. Troy, I wasn't trying to be rude if it seemed that way. I was just wondering about the climate controls ever being an option that's all. And the 3L is just everybody's wet dream

I drove a ZTS model, with the seat all the way back, and all the way down. It was still too high and too far forward for my comfort (I'm 6'2" tall). If they want to make both of us happy, add about 2-3" of height adjustment and 3-6" off front/back adjustment and we ban both adjust the seat to a position we like.
Every other Focus model I've sat in has had the same issue.

From my perspective, I always found the Contour seats (whether SE or SVT, cloth or leather) to be very comfortable. On short and long trips, either way.
I didn't care for the Focus seats, because to me they resembled the office chairs I'll never buy for my office.
Seats are just a very personal thing to most car buyers. The worst car seat I have seen lately is in the Chevy Malibu. Like sitting on plywood.

They listen to their customers hell they have a Mach 1 comming they kept the live axel for drag race nuts! the wjhoile SVT program is a line of performance cars! Its a business and I can assure you they didnt decide not to bring you a cosworth mondeo because they would make drove of dollars and have sunshine shoot right out of bill ford ass! no actaully tehre isnt one here because that wont happen! Get over it and go buy a 25k GTI! then you can complaine that it doesnt have 4 motion or the 3.2v6 or its too damn heavy! that for the same price the WRX is running circles around you! that your door locks dont work! etc Blahhhhha!

TLP, I'll bag on whoever I want, thank you. Ford had an exceptional car in the Contour and in particular the SVT. That it didn't sell is a reflection on their poor marketing and dealer service. I read two posts here recently where 1) a dealer didn't know a SVT Contour existed and 2) a dealer didn't know that a Contour had a cabin air filter. How could the Contour succeed when the above is an indication of the people tasked with selling & maintaining them ?? Regarding the initial piece I posted, the point is VW responded to their customers. VW are only bringing in 1500 so the beneficial impact to their bottom line is minimal. However, now VW enthuasiasts know that their opinions mean something. I think SVT owners feel the opposite is true. Thanks.........
