For $1,000 it's probably a 914.
That's the mid-engined 4-cyl. that many Porsche enthusiasts look down on as being a Volkswagen. As I recall it was developed as a joint project with VW.
Could be a 924 also. Front-engined 4-cyl, ditto.
Not saying don't do it, but make sure it's really worth $1,000. Even at the price it may not be a good deal...
