Well my contours engine went out in a plum of smoke yesterday and the mechanic says that the engine is fryed and it going to cost a fortune to fix and the trade-in value of the car is only like $3700 so I don't know if I am going to fix it or not. Does anyone know how much it would cost for a new engine? The mechanic says it would cost like $2700 for parts alone.

How much of the engine do you need new? Block, cylinder head, pistons, etc.
You could go 3L...

BTW did you take it to David? He won't screw you out of your money. If I were you I would call some junkyards and ask how much one would cost from them.

Ford Racing has a souped up 2.0 ZX3 motor for 2700 complete so I imagine your motor would be cheaper, im pretty sure you cant swap in the ZX3 for some reason though. I would look around, that seems really high for such a little 4 cyl.

I took it to David and he is the one who told me the $2700. I am checking around to see if i can find parts any cheaper but its not looking good. I am not sure what all need to be replaced, the block for sure but other than that we would have to open it up to find out. Something blew out and all the oil drained out while it was going down the road and then it just started making a grinding sound and smoking like hell. So I think the pistons are probably fried.

I don't know what I am going to do about it most everyone is telling me it will be close to $4000 when all is said and done. I don't really want to spend that much on a car that isn't even worth that much. I don't know what the hell I am going to do. Probably buy a new car. But we shall see.
