keeping pollen and dust out of the interior, i'd imagine. doesn't do a whole lot of good when you drive w/ the windows and sunroof open all the time like i do, and if you don't change it every 20-25k miles it'll start to get kinda funky....just changed mine for the 3rd time yesterday @ 46k. already grayish-black in only about 16k miles...

The cabin filter filters the air coming into the pasenger compartment. If you notice a foul smell with your air on, it is time to change the filter. I should have changed mine a year ago. I finally did a few months ago and it was very black and STUNK!!! It takes 15-30 minutes to change and is definately worth the time. I'll be doing mine yearly from now on.

Fords original service interval recommendation was 12-15K, FWIW. You get a HUGE improvement in HVAC performance if you change it this often!

One of the better ideas this cabin filter. Now if I could only get 3M or whoever to make a HEPA version! It definitly helps those of us with breathing afflictions.

You know, I agree on the HVAC performance. Mine had (oh god, and i'm so good with other maintenance) 50K on it...It was black and stunk and was hard to push air through. The new one definitely helped a lot.

Don't have the Ford number, but I use Purolator C-14860.

I checked at Auto Zone this weekend, and they don't carry this part. It is not listed at all in their Fram book and their computer says Not Yet Available. Is this a Ford dealership only part? I see the Purolator # above, but who carries purolator?
