I live in the phoenix so you have to assume that heat soak is pretty bad for me. I took off my hoodliner last night after reading this and I can tell you that it made one hell of a difference to me. My heat shield is on order already.
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

When I changed my oil last week I decided to just rip the thing out. A little louder and it does really seem to keep temps down.

Humidity is the bigger factor, not just heat. Here on the East caost with 100% humidity and 90ish all summer its a lot worse than Pheonix where you have a dry 100 degree heat.

Took my hood liner off today. (Made sure to polish and wax under side of hood)
I noticed a drop in the IAT of more then 10 degrees! That's with no heatshield!
So underhood temps where much lower.
I could actually touch the intake manifold after driving it home today!!! It was very warm, but not hot or the usual scorching.
The hood was only warm to the touch. Maybe even cooler than with the hood-liner?
BTW it was 90ish & humid today here...

Did it last night after a glass of bourbon (Maker's). Felt the intake before I did it. It had been resting for at least 2 hours and the intake manifold was still scorching. I took it out carefully, retaining the fasteners, just in case I had regrets in the morning (seeing as I was under the influence, and all.) Haven't had a chance to drive it, yet. It seems all previous discussions of this topic have centered around noise, or speculation about the liner's purpose. This is the first time I've seen anybody really address the engine bay temperature issue, and back it up with both subjective and instrumented measurements. Just another reason to love this forum and all you other members who make it great. (Wish to hell I knew more so I could be more helpful.) Cheers!

I will post pics of my homemade CAI/heatshield soon, but it uses the stock fender boot to suck in cold air from under the car. This is an excellent improvement -- the high-flow of the KKM filter without the heat soak issues!

ok I removed my headliner today, one note - make sure you have a hand free to grab those plastic rivets, if you pop them off from behind they fly everywhere!!! anyways, my intake was still hot after a spirited drive, and the intake noise was definitely louder, but I did feel some more pull (could be my head) I was amazed at how shiny the underside of the hood is, I thought it would look like crap, but it's actually very nice with the hood up
