damn that sux, Im actually going to be getting an alarm soon, And im going to pick up a Clifford Alarm, those are suppsed to be really good. The thing I like best about them is they make like 7 different loud annyoing noises, unlike the vipers which do the standard siren noise only.
Good luck!

I have a Crimeguard alarm, it's saved my ass twice. One time, my car was parked on the street in front of the townhouse I was living in at the time. I was asleep, a couple of my roommates were still awake and they heard the alarm go off. They looked outside to see a car zoom out of there w/ headlights off. So they run up and get me and tell me someone was just trying to break into my car. Took a baseball bat outside with me to check on the car, but no damage done. Similar thing happened again a few months later at the same townhouse, cept the car was in the driveway on the side of the house. Again, no damage.
Only one false alarm -- during the biggest thunderstorm I can remember in recent years. HUGE, LOUD, LONG thunder boom set off the alarm. Well, it does go off when I park it outside, under the runway at the airport. I've learned to leave it in valte mode when I park there, the lot has a barbed wire fence around it and 24 hour security.
It's a dual stage shock sensor, the first stage is a little too sensitive. If someone slams their door next to my car it'll let off a few beeps. I'm pretty darn happy with the thing. Cost me $250 installed, 4 years ago, 3 weeks after I bought the car.

Somebody bashed my window not too long ago too. They were after a portable CD player and car kit I had in my car. The idiot tried to use a screwdriver to pry the window out and unlock the door. When they finally realized that the whole window trim was metal they just bashed the window. They ended up leaving the CD player and they got some of my CD's (mostly jazz). I just bent the metal part back and had the window replaced for about $200.

A Pro will get around anything if they want it badly enough, punks will just bash and mash things and leave things very messy. If they want it they will get it, the only thing you can do is make it harder on them. An alarm is an inconvience and it is only as a good as the the person who installs it. If you have an alarm, look under your dash, can you see any thing that belongs to the alarm? A pro will know a car (if they are targeting your make and model) inside and out and will recongnize if there are additional wires up there. If you can see your alarm's brain your car is as good as gone if a real car thief comes around.

When I get one I'll make sure they do the install properly. This is break in no.3 for me in the past three years and I want to avoid another break in at all costs, or at least have a break from one for a year Has anyone ever used a or know anything about a proximity sensor? I've had people at stereo shops tell me good and bad things about them. I do like the pitbull idea though

Hey I know how you feel... I woke up to your experience three times... in over a year and a half. Stole stereo equipment and all that jazz, but insurance covered it all... Sorry to hear about that!

Most thieves will se the alarm LED and go for another car instead. Only the amature little punks will break the window and try to steal things with the alarm on. Sure some thieves know how to disable the alarm, but if they can't see the wire they want to cut at first glance, they will find an easier target.

Go for a Clifford alarm, that way if they cut ANY of the wires on it, it will go off loudly. One of the many immobilisers doesn't even have wires (radio switched) so they cant bypass it. All uses digital sequence codes so bi-wiring wont work either
You also get a really effective proximity growler which stops people parking too close and standing near your paintwork. Combined with security film on the glass, the only way they will get your car is a tow truck and boy will it make a lot of noise while they do it.
