Yesterday, I was getting ready to go to work and when I went outside to my svt, Behold, a bashed out window. OH MAN,NO!!!! And like a moron I had left my wallet in the car and now it's gone with all of my health insurance, credit and debit cards. This was at about 4:45 am. The bad thing is one of the cards has my SS# on it. After all of the chaos of blocking cards and filing police reports I got a repair estimate for the window, One grand!! OH MAN,NO!!!! At least these are things that can be replaced or repaired. I just can't belive that the car is one year old and it allready is having another paint job on that side.
Later that day I got a call from a officer saying they found my wallet in a stolen car in the next state. I guess they broke into a few more cars down the road and stole two cars and almost ended after a high speed chase but, the officer had to stop because the chase had gotten too dangerous. Then they turned onto a dirt road and the chase resumed again but, the gap between them was so large that they were able to ditch the car and run on foot. The officer said the next closest unit was over half an hour away so there was nothing he could do. That's when he found my wallet among other stolen things. Only four of my credit cards were recovered which is better than none.
So, I just want to tell everyone to never leave anything with extreme value in your car or you may also earn the idiot title like me smile

I had pretty much the same thing happen to me a couple months ago. I had about $50 in cash in my glove box, but they did not touch that. They went straight for my stereo. These guys were pretty good, they actually TOOK THE WINDOW OUT rather than breaking it! Of course it shattered on the way out, or while he was setting it on the ground. (tint held it together) By the way, they did not get anything because after he actually got in the car the alarm went off.
It only cost me 200 to get the window replaced, and about 75 for the track. I think maybe 1000 is a little steep....?

Hey guys,

What about alarms? They don't scare these guys away?

I mean, if your alarm didnt go off...that coulda MAYBE saved ya...just wondering confused

It helped me actually. My window was cracked while some idiot was trying to get into my car. I had nothing visible but when you have tinted windows, people do assume you *might* have something to hide...my stereo. He was peeling the rubber insulation around the window when he (accidentally?) chipped the window, which cracked all the way through and set off my alarm...my stereo was still there when i got back from class(Pioneer KEH-7800)...so i guess it saved my ass sort of...

Hell, if i am sitting in my car unlocked without starting the engine for more than 30-60 seconds (i forget) the alarm initializes, and any motion makes the led flicker more rapidly. If i even take out my cd player deck, move my seat, shake the car, move my steering wheel, mirrors, the alarm goes off...it even goes off if i open the door while the ignition is on if i wait long enough before starting it initially...

Kinda pisses me off sometimes actually smile

a couple years back half a doen of my car as well as my own were broken into by PROFESSIONALS.

all of the cars had alarms, but the theives bypassed the alarms one way or another a took amps, subs, head units, valuables, etc.

so even alarms aren't always effective deterents.

My alarm DID go off, but not until they got inside the car. All they were able to take off was the trim around the headunit. As I said earlier, they were very good and very careful. Also, I was having a problem with the wind setting off the alarm, so I had the sensitivity set down.

Sorry for your misfortune. This may lighten the subject, My Blazer was stolen from San Antonio some years ago. The people that stole it abandoned it in the middle of a road. When I picked it up from the impound I received a ticket for obstruction of traffic! I ended up not going to court(no car, didnt know where the court was, just moved there for college) I later found they had a warrent for my arrest. I was really pissed. But it was corrected

People accidentally set off their alarms so often that when the average person hears one they don't even look!

It's too bad that these things happen to so many other people. What happened with the blazer is a new one for me. What's funny, actually now that I think about it it's not that funny but, is the fact that I was about to buy a new security system for the car about a month ago but I thought nah, that wouldn't happen to me. Yet another shining moment of stuipidty for me. Now I get to put that five hundred towards the deductible to get the car fixed, I really need to quit learning the hard way smile
The reason it is costing a grand is because 1- they pried on the door with a screwdriver bending the flashing around the window. 2- the glass broke. 3- they had to take apart the dash to get to the vents because the glass went into them. 4- the shop is cleaning up the glass for me because I don't have much time to do that stuff anymore. 5- they need to repaint that side because when the glass fell it cut through the paint to the metal, I really don't want a car one year old to start rusting especially since I have a 53' jeep with no rust on it, that just wouldn't seem right smile At least these are material things that can be fixed.
I think it might be time for the alarm.

Does anyone have any alarm systems that you would recomend or have had good luck using?
