After checking out some ads for 1995 and 1996 Contours, I've noticed that prices fluctuate quite wildly. From between $7800 to $11,500. For a 1995 SE.

I expect to be going to Europe in several months and will need to sell the Contour.

I was hoping you guys could give me some insight into what you think I could reasonably ask for.

Here's what I have:

* 1995 Contour SE, 5-Speed
* KKM True Rev. (stock airbox currently installed)
* Long-range UltraStart 1500 Remote car starter (1200+ ft.) Does doors and trunk too.
* 45x4 180 Watt Clarion in Dash CD.
* 102,200 Km Mileage.
* New Engine installed at 99,700 km. With new belts, plugs, timing belt. etc.
* Synthetic Transmission fluids. (Not that it makes a difference in price.)
* Fully loaded, except leather and Moonroof.
* Gislaved (Swedish tire, owned by Continental) Speed 506 H Rated directional tires. (Awesome in the rain) 5 months old.
* Full service and repair records.

If anybody has some suggestions on what this is worth, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

As long as the interior and exterior are clean these are my thoughts. To the right younger buyer $10,500. I say younger buyer because it's a 5spd with mods and if you emphasize the performance to the right young dude with cash he'll pay top dollar (harder to find this specific buyer).

A normal every day Joe would only expect to pay probably $9,000. The Joe would probably have no compassion for your mods and equity (easy to find Joe). That means you would have to bite the bullet on your mods that you leave with the car.

My suggestion: Post your car in all forms of popular media. Triad, Toronto Sun, Automart, Autotrader, etc.

Good luck

The prices seem to be going up. A few months ago they were down to around $6000, I've still seen some go for around $7000 near me about 2 months ago (95, loaded, leather sunroof Traction Control ect, but high mileage - 150,000)

I'd say around $10000. I would normally say $9000 but it has a new engine.

Personally me and my friends (I have a friend looking, but I don't think he'll buy a car for a while) wouldn't buy one for over $7500 but were cheap.

I was wondering about that. I know I will never get back what I spent on the engine, but I do think it is worth something. It only has 2000km on the new engine so far, and the engine has a 2 year 40,000km warranty on it. If I was buying a car again, that would be worth something to me for sure. Just the 2 years piece of mind alone.
The body is in near perfect shape, I think I'll try to post ads at $10,750. and see how it goes.

Thanks for the input guys.

Didn't know the engine had a warrenty, the extra $750 sounds right with that.

I bought my '96 LX with pretty much the same factory options 20 months ago. I paid $8995 at a Ford Dealer. Had 140,000 kms though. I honestly haven't seen a '95 priced any higher than $8995, but that's all factory.

I tried selling my 98 GL V6 MTX for 10,500 last summer. It has factory alloys, and everything except sunroof, spoiler and leather. 3 weeks in the autotrader and not one call. My car had 75,000 clicks. I think these cars are hard to sell without warranty. I suggest you bring it to a used car place and they'll sell it on consignment. (They usually take $1000 or %10, but they offer a 6month powertrain warranty to buyers)

Ouch! That sounds harsh. I am putting together a website though that explains all the car's features and has some pictures. I've got time on my side, so we'll see what happens.

May I ask what you did end up ($$$) selling you car for?

I decided to keep it becuase my wife finished school and got a job. I bought it used in 99 (it was a 98 model) for 11,900. It had ~62,000 km on it and no problems other than a bad cat which was under the emission warranty.

I was trying to get a car with auto so my wife could drive too, but then we ended getting her a 2000 Intrigue on a lease, so it all worked out in the end.

I plan on keeping the tour for the forseeable future (It just won't die!).

Good luck selling it. Try what I told you if you can't private sale it.
